At simplehuman, we use PCR plastic to reduce our impact on the planet without compromising the performance of our products. By processing plastic bottles into a high-quality laundry bag, we produce 76%1 less carbon dioxide than would be needed to produce a bag from new plastic. Using responsible materials, we have created a durable, breathable and waterproof solution for storing dirty laundry.

Our durable recycled polyester has its origins in plastic water, beverage and sports bottles. After collection, bottles are thoroughly cleaned to remove beverage residues. The bottles are then ground into plastic flakes, baked to remove the moisture, and then melted down into a thick slurry. The melted plastic crumb is filtered and pushed through small holes. This process creates thin plastic fibers, similar to fishing line. These threads are spun and heated until they reach the desired elasticity and strength. Finally, bags for x-frame laundry baskets are made from recycled polyester threads.
